Playback
The Wriezener Freiraum provides blank social space with little
predefined patterns of behavior. A perfect place for suchlike
experiments: Illusion is a revolutionary weapon, based on William
S. Burroughs tape-playback experiments we try to manipulate reality
by embedding field recordings into the sonic environment. Intended
to fake acoustic reality, the playback of prerecorded scenes through
hidden soundsystems will constitute space and atmospheres that
may encourage certain situations. From simple confusion to concrete
actions we are testing out effects of this technique. We use sound
as a tool to produce and reconfigure space.
taperecorder 1: filmmusik
Warschauer bridge is a place of constant movement. Thousands of
young people are crossing daily, somehow evoking the image of
a catwalk. The playback of movie scores will initiate the construction
of artificial situations by exaggerating the act of staging.
taperecorder 2: sex tape festival
"(...) consider (...) the possibility that a virus can be activated
or even created by very small units of sound (...). Imagine, for
example a sex virus. It so inflames the sex centres in the back
brain that the host is driven mad from sexuality, all other considerations
are blacked out. Parks full of naked, frenzied people (...)."
(William S. Burroughs. Electronic Revolution)
